Recommended Reads
Some of my favourites from fellow Substack authors
I haven’t done a recommended reads for a while. I notice in one of my first posts that I hoped to publish one every two weeks so - two years later. I find it difficult to find, or rather re-find stuff on Substack, so here are a few I’ve managed to pin down. As far as I know all are free to read.
Firstly a couple of serials that I read almost as soon as they pop into my inbox. Both are virtually smut free but they contain almost everything else. They are running at the moment so only the authors’ (hopefully) know where they will end up.
Really Old Bastards by Stevie Duffy
Stevie’s content warning says that it contains sex, gross humour, ageism, ableism, mild racism, pretty much all the same shit from the first book. That just about sums it up; it’s funny, full of wry jokes and sarcasm and centres around Tracey, a character you cannot help but love to hate.
Really Old Bastards is a sequel to Old Bastards, which is available as a book, but is still readable, even if you missed the original.
Her Marriage Her Terms by Saddletramp1956
I must admit I jumped into the middle of this serial so spent some time working out what was going on, but that’s part of the attraction.
Backtracking, I discovered that the story starts when William Baxter is kicked out of his house and marriage by his wife. In chapter two it takes a preternatural twist and becomes a highly engaging tale. Whether it’s about the effects of justice, retribution and revenge or a rekindled love (or something else completely) is yet to be revealed.
Moving onto short stories.
Sizing by Silken Mouli
I'm starting to find slightly strange, sexy/not sexy all at the same time stories on Substack and this one definitely fits the bill. I can add nothing else apart from, read it; it will be ten minutes of your life that is not wasted.
I’d also recommend Unwashed. Many writers forget about the sense of smell - Silken Mouli puts it centre stage in this story.
The Artist and Her Model by Posy Churchgate
There’s lots of age-gap erotica about but Posy does it so well with a slow burn, reversing the traditional roles and lots of doubts in the main character’s mind.
This is a two part story. Read it in Velvet Affairs
The Mirror of Desire by Nemo Omnis
This is from a new (to Substack) writer. Since I am a fan of the paranormal/supernatural crossing the boundary between their and our world, especially with erotic intentions, I was hooked.
Non fiction

What a fantastic selection- I’m honoured to have made the cut! Investigating those new to me pronto!
Thank you for the mention 🤍
I should mention that I write blog posts about my musings on all things kink, and although I do conduct thorough research, they’re not meant to be educational as such.
I much prefer to write fiction and I actually think I’m much better at it 😆
