I recently wrote and article How to Write (And Read) A Serial Story Following on from that here are some short reviews of serials by writers who have mastered the art of slow burn romance and erotica. Pour yourself a glass of wine and settle down for a good read.
Cheating Fiction Series by Juniper Less
Short on sex by heavy on emotion and suspense (both of which make for a great story), the Cheating Fiction Series follows the excitement and angst felt by John, an older man, as he has an all consuming affair with Ginny, his tennis student and family friend. It features beautifully drawn characters, lots of suspense and a choice of two possible conclusions.
I was going to add, maybe not one to read if you are a married man who is having or recently had an affair; but then, go on read it, it’s enlightening. Especially the take 2 ending.

Annette Gets a New Groove by Posy Churchgate & Jacques Gerard
Annette Gets a New Groove is a sultry, slow burn romance between Annette, a divorced librarian and Cornelius, a handsome young college student. The, ‘will they won’t they’ theme (of course they will) and hesitancy of the of the characters pulls the reader along. Cornelius is especially well portrayed as a slightly nervous character in the thrall of an older woman, rather than the brash youths so often depicted in age gap romance.

Awakening The Innocent by H. Zilfiger
The burn is so slow in this series it positively smoulders. It tells the story of a young initiate nun tested for, as yet undisclosed, tasks by the Inquisitor. Each episode takes Sister Ruth closer to the carnal tasks she must learn. H. Zilfger says “It’s probably just smut,” but if it is, it’s very well written and intriguing smut. It is also illustrated by glorious digital artwork by the author.

Painted Stripes
I have to do some self promotion. Painted Stripes follows Jocelyne, a meek and conservative housewife, whose husband is having an affair. Inspired by a strange painting of her, and helped by her friend Sandie, she dives head first into an erotic lifestyle. Not so much slow burn but once the fuse is lit the explosions just keep getting louder until Jocelyne blossoms into a confident woman who takes charge of her life.
Painted Stripes is published exclusively for my paid subscribers on my Substack. There are two more episodes to be published next week. If you subscribe now and read quickly you can get through the whole thing before the month is up (there are other serials to tempt you to stay, but I won’t mention them).
One To Watch
The Victoria Hawthorne Chronicles by John A. Brown
This series has taken an interesting turn in episode 5 swinging from a Kill Bill style story something more complex. I shall write a review of it in the future.

More Recommended Reads
With so many stories available online is is difficult to ‘sort the wheat from the chaff’ (and that’s being polite). I hope to publish Recommended Reads every two weeks or so depending on how fast I read and how many good stories I find.
I like to read erotica and don’t care how outlandish and kinky the sex is as long it is woven into a captivating story. I am also a big fan of transgressive fiction as championed by Redemption Magazine so you might find me recommending anything from psychological horror to humorous stories with a twist in the tale.
I am also happy to add your recommendations to my reading list.
Many thanks, Simone! Episode 7, the most important after #5, is in production! It may take a bit longer to emerge, relative to the prior two installments, given the time I need to set everything up to my satisfaction, and to provide maximum impact!
A wonderful selection - Juniper will be happy :-) and yes i thoroughly recommend Redemption - it does not censor - a bit like substack :-D
