::The Gold Blend couple was a British television advertising campaign for Nescafé Gold Blend instant coffee.::
We call it "Taster's Choice" over here in 'Murika! Those ads starred Anthony Stewart Head—or as we know him in the United States, "Giles from BUFFY, THE VAMPIRE SLAYER". He was later Frank N. Furter in a revival of THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW, opposite Craig Ferguson(!) as Brad, about five years from coming over to the USofA to play Giles.
I didn't know until now that he's Murray Head's (Judas on the original album of JESUS CHRIST, SUPERSTAR, and later "Freddie, the American" in CHESS—we mostly know HIM from the music video, https://youtu.be/rgc_LRjlbTU?si=WUktG5xNVbsvKraf ) brother, though now that I look at the music video I can absolutely see the family resemblance.
All of that has next to nothing to do with a sixty-one year old divorced woman becoming the dominatrix/lover of a man twenty years her junior, but it's interesting to me, at least.
It is all interesting DR. I added the note because only people of a certain age remember the ad. Many readers may wonder what Kate finds so funny. Thanks for reading.
As soon as I read it, I remembered the ads! 😁 Anthony Head was hot in that young Hugh Grant, floppy-haired stammering Englishman, kind of way we don't get much in the United States, and Sharon Maughan had that English Rose Overbite that makes guys like me weak in the knees.
